Most, if not all, of my friends and acquaintances are proud to call themselves geeks.

I am very proud that I can say that I have never witnessed any of my friends violating any part of this excellent list.

However, I still think that everyone, everywhere, regardless of fandom or any other affiliation, should take a look at that list, and then take a look at themselves. Just in case.

I am quite pleased to see very little wank in the comments. A couple of people are being douchey, but they get shot down really quickly.

Well, apparently it needs to happen. People who don't realize how unacceptable their behavior is will never correct it.

I read this a few days ago (it was posted to the dragoncon community) and I had a similar reaction.

Part of the problem, though, (keep in mind that I know this is definitely not true for you,) is that the people who are guilty of these transgressions are likely to have the exact same reaction.

Oh, I'm completely sure of it. That lack of self-awareness is what gets them into that lot in the first place.

Then again, their existence makes con-goers like me look like Cary Grant in comparison.

True. They do make the rest of us look that much more awesome by comparison.

I'm still baffled that there are people who made it to adulthood thinking that sort of behavior is acceptable at all. I know a pair of spoiled almost-six-and-eight-year-olds who behave better than that in public.

Perhaps choosing a life grounded in various alternate realities has led them to believe that our society's etiquette is optional, or not applicable to their reality? I don't know, I just don't get it either.

It makes my brain twitch, that's for sure. Whatever the reason, there's really no excuse.
