G33k Pride

Most, if not all, of my friends and acquaintances are proud to call themselves geeks.

I am very proud that I can say that I have never witnessed any of my friends violating any part of this excellent list.

However, I still think that everyone, everywhere, regardless of fandom or any other affiliation, should take a look at that list, and then take a look at themselves. Just in case.

[livejournal.com profile] rm is my hero for many reasons, and that list is the icing on the cake.

I read this a few days ago (it was posted to the [livejournal.com profile] dragoncon community) and I had a similar reaction.

"Is that me? No."
"Is that me? No."
"Is that me? No."
...
"Is that me? No."

Oh, I'm completely sure of it. That lack of self-awareness is what gets them into that lot in the first place.

Then again, their existence makes con-goers like me look like Cary Grant in comparison.

Perhaps choosing a life grounded in various alternate realities has led them to believe that our society's etiquette is optional, or not applicable to their reality? I don't know, I just don't get it either.
