As fun as the Wii is, I still hope Sony gets their act together. The newer games for the PS2 look astounding on my new LCD, so I'm curious to see what the new PS3 HD games will look like when the bugs are worked out of the system.
My thing is, I don't want to pay as much as they're charging. Unless it cooks and cleans the house for me, that is FAR too much for me to ever pay for a gaming system.
Ditto. $600 is way too much, and I understand they're even selling it at a loss. Unless that comes far down I'll be content with my long since paid for PS2 and the $15 games from the wholesale club.
I'm deep into FFXII now. I got Spiderman 2 and Champions Of Norath for $15 each from BJ's waiting to be played. Plus I should eventually finish GTA:VC. :-)
Sony's been run by delusional psychos for a while now. Some of the quotes from Ken Kutaragi in the runup to the PS3 release were good for little more than comic relief.
It's kind of sad, actually. Them saying things like that about the Wii kind of offends me, since I rather enjoy it. It's almost like they're insulting me. I know that's not the intended result, but there you have it. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who will feel that way.
1) I'm still having fun playing my Wii 2) I haven't even thought about buying a PS3 and until they come down in their price, I won't. 3) Nintendo will ALWAYS blow out the competition. They understand the concept of "fun".
I had a whole rant part of which covers that, but I erased it. I don't want to rant in your comments. Maybe I'll post it on my journal.
Suffice to say, gaming has always been pretentious, especially on the corporate level. Nintendo is curently bucking that trend, and marketing to the riff-raff uninitiated every(wo)man.
In effect. They're "cheating". That creates resentment among the other players.
I actually understand what the guy was saying. Sony isn't going after new gamers with their system. They want the people who have purchased new system after new system... they want the people who bought the NES, then bought Sega Saturn, then SNES, then PS1, then Xbox, then PS2, then Xbox 360... that's what their target is... They know that at $600, they aren't going to lure people who aren't hardcore, graphic-driven gamers...
Personally, as amusing as the Wii is, it wouldn't hold my attention for any great period of time (time measured in terms of weeks, not hours)... I will say that I'm waiting for the inevitable price lowering on the PS3 before I buy one...
I actually prefer the SOCOM 1st/3rd person view to true FPS... I also prefer to game while crashed out and relaxed... shoulder pain the day after a marathon gaming session is NOT my idea of a good thing... and that's exactly what happened the last time I played mass amounts of Wii at Kim's... You should see me this time of year on my PS2... I'm propped up on pillows in bed, completely bundled up... no way in hell I could use a Wii remote that way...
Zelda's seems pretty cool, and you don't have to use the motion sensor featre too much. If you like classic Nintendo games, there's some available for download already.
If they can fix the PS3 and bring the price waaaayyyy down, then I'll think about it. I just don't want to pay that much for something that doesn't cook and clean for me, or work the way it should.
If I want actual physical activity, I'll join a gym, go fishing or go golfing...
Classic games I can download emulators for on my computer...
I'm just waiting for them to fix the backwards compatibility issues (or for me to cease to care about them) and get the price for a fully loaded system down to $500 or lower...
She's right. Sports is hard on you. It's a workout (though, you get used to it like any activity).
Zelda doesn't hurt. Even after playing a while. The most active thing you do is wiggle the 'chuck a little to perform a spinning attack.
You wait. You must know the controls on SOCOM aren't as good with a controller as w/mouse keyboard. The 'chuck replicates that better. There's gotta be a decent knockoff of the Rainbow series or whatever in the pipes somewhere. No game system avoids WWII forever. :)
that's exactly my stance on it. Finally, someone who isn't going to lecture me that the PS3 isn't worth it. I will snag one as soon as it drops to 300 or so. If it ever does.
Oh, I'm tempted to go out and buy it right away. But I'm going to be good. i have too many trips planned, that I really can't spend money on a new gaming system.

It's a very good system, with a lot of games that are cheap that I haven't played. I'm not 12, I don't need the newest and coolest.
PS2 rocks.

Date: 2007-02-02 10:03 pm (UTC)I'd love to do the VC too. I liked the original (which I picked up used w/the London expansion from EB for $10 or something like that. :) )
