New York Teacher Binds Hands and Feet of Black Girls for Slavery Lesson

I had that woman as a teacher in the seventh grade. She was horrible, and I am completely unsurprised that something like this happened in her classroom. I distinctly recall thinking that she shouldn't be teaching when I was in school.

You can be sure that I will be watching to see how this turns out.

I just read that article and I feel sickened.

Yeah, while I appreciate creative teaching, bondage should not be a part of any under-age curriculum.

Somebody tell Val there's a job opening. :)

I put a link to the story on facebook and most people defended her, which just boggled me. boggled.

Well, you must admit, it is a lesson the class will never forget.

Intellectually, it's an effective teaching tool. However, the emotional issues surrounding the matter are too damaging to be quite so profoundly revealed to students of that age, or probably any age really.

College level, with a sensitive teacher and volunteers: effective teaching tool, possibly.

Pre-puberty level: don't tie kids up!

Not right at all, I think my mind is still numbed from reading that!
I can see being creative and making a point, but if you are going to do something like that you make DAMN sure that 1) you ask the kids first and 2) know your audience!

You never EVER touch the kids. Plus, it's a safety issue. If you tie up any number of children ... if there's, heaven forbid, a fire, it'll take them longer to get out of the building.

I actually read this story before you mentioned it, and while I admit it was distasteful, it certainly got the message across.

Seriously, maybe she does need help, but really? She was trying something new AND the girl didn't complain about it until she went home. If I were THAT upset, I would've left class and gone to the principal myself.

But that's me.

Knowing now that she was your teacher and has always been this crazy is a little weird though.

Um....what?!

Seriously, this teacher needs to rethink "hands-on" education.

If she will still have her job that is....
