"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8," - Brad Pitt.

He's talking about the vote that's coming up in California on whether or not gays should have the right to marry.

I liked him as an actor before, and I like him even more now.

can we put all these fearmongering hatemongers on a boat to Antarctica to feed the Polar bears? Prop 8 is just that, a wedge proposition.

They already tried to redistrict Ca to shift electoral votes. They will stoop lower than a snake's winkie.

seriously, they practice nothing that they preach.

Time to tilt the tables in the temple.

We could, but then we'd end up with a sub-zero Australia. Who knows what the hell would grow out of that?

Drinking beer and playing rugby too, I'll bet.

Two things here: One, does his statement mean more or less considering that it's an almost direct quote of a Captain America comic? And two, just to play a little devil's advocate here, since no one has the right to deny another their life, I wonder if he'd apply the same statement to the abortion debate?

1) Probably a coincidence actually, it's reasonably standard phrasing. I just thought it was funny. Maybe he's shilling for a role in the movie. ;-)
2) That's where the real debate is, or at least should be. I don't think most rational people think that taking a pill at two days is wrong or that waiting until the 8th month is right (but like you said below, there is a dearth of rational people). The question is all those grey areas inbetween.

His quote gets a "Well, duh" from me. Any sane, rational person should automatically believe what he stated. Hell, I'm neither sane nor rational, but I am a die-hard believer of individuals living their lives as they so choose. I'd like him to take it a few steps further, linking discrimination to collectivism and showing how worthless collectivist stereotypes are in a vibrant, living world.

Discrimination based on demonstrated ability is fine; discrimination based on oft-debunked stereotypes around skin color and sexual preference have no place ANYWHERE, let alone America.
