I need some assistance from those of you who possess more computer knowledge than I do.

My computer is having some major issues with Firefox, and I have no idea why. I un-installed and re-installed the latest version, and am still having the same issues.

Every time I ask it to do something, whether it be to navigate to a new site, or whether I click on a field in a form to type something, the program stops responding, and my CPU usage jumps to over 50%. Once Firefox finishes what it's doing, everything is fine and it works well until I ask it to do something more complicated than scroll. Sometimes even THAT freezes it up.

IE 7 works just fine, but I really don't trust Microsoft, and I'd like Firefox to cut this shit out and work properly again.

I'm posting this from Rich's laptop, which is on the same network as my computer, and is running the same version of Firefox. I'm not having any problems at all.

My fear is that my computer is reaching the end of its lifespan or something.

Any thoughts?

Clearly you're on a PC, but strangely enough I'm having a similar problem on my Mac. I used to love Firefox, but lately it's been acting bizarre. This doesn't help you solve the problem, but perhaps it points to the latest release of Firefox being the issue instead of your computer. Good luck!

In the meantime.

I've been an Opera user for years, but I also keep a reasonbly updated version of Firefox on my machine for the sites that won't work in Opera that I refuse to enable IE for.

On two different machines, Firefox has a crash rate of roughly 4 times Opera's. Also, Opera starts up faster and is less of a resource hog. And a lot of the stuff that Firefox requires downloaded, installed, and updated extension for, Opera does right out of te box, or possibly with 5 minutes configuration.

Can you find an earlier version of it and try running that? It might be conflicting with something else. Also shut off everything running in the background and see if that makes a difference to try to find the conflict.

ya know. i had the same issue. squish uninstalled firefox and reinstalled a newer version and it seems to be better.

it mainly crashes when i am in yahoo and go to x out of another tab.

but since he did that (a week or two ago) it's only crashed like, twice.

it used to crash 5 times a night (cause i couldn't get it through my head that i couldn't x out of another page while in yahoo, something about yahoo's ads)

That happened with my computer, granted I switch back and forth between IE 7 and Firefox at times, but somthing must be going on with Firefox in general because I know I've had to cancel out of it more than a few times and re-open the window to complete searches and stuff because it just plain didn't want to work.

Maybe contact Firefox if they have a web support of contact database or something.

Have you tried the Flock browser at all? It's built off of Firefox, but it's got some pretty neat features that make it easier to blog, upload pictures, etc.

If all the versions of FF are the same, have you checked to make sure everything else on your computer is the same as on all the others? (For instance - have you recently run a Windows Update that Rich didn't? Or are you running other programs at the same time that aren't running on his computer?)

Hey, I have read about your problem and I have thought of a couple of scenario's. These might help resolve the situation.

Recommendations:

least expensive to most expensive

Least Expensive

1. increase virtual memory
2. Install Fire Fox 3 Beta

Most Expensive
3. Increase your physical memory (RAM)

Any combination of these three should help the issue.

Contact me if your still having issues or if you need any help doing any of the above mentioned.
