I'm nesting again. As a result, I've decided to learn the fine art of canning and preserving, so that I may make my own pumpkin puree and have it available whenever I wants me some pumpkin pancakes. (Which, by the way, I find are very helpful for relieving PMS symptoms.)

Anyway, does anyone know anything about canning and such? I'm going to purchase a book, but I'd like to know if anyone I know has any real-world experience at it.

I figure once faire ends, it's going to seem as though I have extreme amounts of time on my hands, so why not develop some new hobbies?

not sure if the process is the same...but we (read: my mom) makes home-made grape jelly each year....and we have them stored in air-tight jars....

That's going to be alot of work. It's never worth it to just do one or two jars, and by the time you make it worth it, you've got 60 jars of whatever on your hands.

Not related to the subject at hand, but...

I just ran into Kirsten Weinrich while waiting for the bus today.

Apparently, she lives a few minutes away from me.

I don't know much about the art of canning/preserving (although wouldn't mind learning) but I DO know the jars are on sale all over the place so good timing on your part. There is something about this time of year that instincts take over and suddenly baking and hoarding goodies is just the natural thing to do. I'm hitting farm I like this weekend for # of goodies, ones I can bake and others drink(craving good cider)

Hrm. I could certainly tap my mother's experience. She's made pickles, jams and other things that go in jars for years.

I'm driving to MA in two weeks to make canned apple sauce and jelly with my friend.

I want to know how to quilt...
