how about, with a first time actor who is very stiff and obviously nervous, what do you think is the best way to help them relax in order to get what you want from them?
I think the best way to overcome nervousness is to find out why they're nervous. Is it because they're not used to speaking in front of people? Are they afraid they'll forget their lines? Once you figure that out, you address that problem.
For me, the best way to overcome nervouness is to practice what I'm doing until I could do it in my sleep. I used to literally have dreams about doing whatever show I was rehearsing for, and wake up saying the lines. Once I had my part down, the rest was out of my hands, so I didn't worry about it.
for this particular person, the hard thing is, they have no lines. it's all just "bacting natural" but they don't seemt o know how. i'm meeting with them tonight, i'm just gonna talk it out thil they loosen up. i hope that works.
Maybe they can't act natural as themselves, but they'd have an easier time if they were pretending to be someone else? Or maybe it's the other way around?
