Things that are on my mind
Nov. 28th, 2011 02:36 pm-I really wish it was more socially acceptable for Rich and I to be unmarried people who own a house together. I also really wish it was socially acceptable for me to tell his mother to mind her own damn business when she asks me when we're getting engaged. We're getting engaged when we're both ready, and not a minute sooner. I'm leaving all of the circumstances, including the ring, up to Rich. I am not going to help you pressure him into popping the question before he's ready. It's true that I may be less-than-patient in general, but when it comes to the inner workings of our relationship, that stuff's between the two of us. No one else. I've posited the idea of not telling her we're engaged, and just sending her an invitation, but Rich doesn't think we'd be able to get away with it.
-My grandfather is in the hospital. It's not terribly serious; it's just a MRSA infection on his leg. We're all more concerned about my grandmother, honestly. Her memory had been going downhill lately, and Mom said she was confused about why Grandpa was in the hospital. After they left on Thanksgiving, the rest of the family was discussing the situation. My eldest cousin was all gung-ho to put my grandparents in an assisted living facility. Knowing my grandparents, they would have NONE of that. The lack of compassion my cousin demonstrated during that and other discussions was startling.
-I've been playing Skyrim. You know a game is good when you're wandering around, and you think to yourself, "Gee, I wish I had my camera and tripod...." (In my defense, I hadn't finished my coffee yet.) It's definitely immersive!
-We ordered a new front door, and we're going to have my father come up with his van on Sunday to pick it up, along with a new back door. Unfortunately, it looks like we've run out of nice weather, so the doors probably won't get installed until springtime. Bah.
-I think a snack is in order. Yes.
