For the longest time, I have wanted a down comforter. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] toosha, I got a really great deal on one. Yay!

I figure, ok, I have the comforter, I need a duvet cover. That's what you do, right? So I go shopping. I fell in love with this pretty green striped micro-suede one. It was on sale, AND I had a coupon! Luckily, I said to myself, "Self, we should check the washing instructions, just in case." Lo and behold, the duvet cover, (part of the point of which, as I understand it, is to prevent you from having to wash the down comforter too much,) is dry clean only. WTF?? That's out.

They also had a pretty solid sage green sateen duvet cover for less than the micro-suede one, so I picked that up. 100% cotton, very soft, and most importantly...machine washable. I am pleased. Also on sale, also with the coupon. Hooray!

Now, I've never had a down comforter or duvet cover before. I understand the basic idea of how this works, but the mechanics of how to get the comforter inside of the duvet cover in such a way that it is straight and does not bunch up is beyond me. Do you do it like a giant pillow and pillow case? Is there some magical trick to this process?

Any advice?

Nicci is right luv. It really is a matter of perserverance on your part. It is kind of like a pillow and its case. You may need to reach waaaay into the bottom corners and make it a little more tidy.

We gave up on ours since our one cat loves to puke on our bed. Too much of a hassel to pull the Duvet off all the time to wash it. LOL

-Turn the duvet cover inside out.
-put your arms inside the cover and grab the two far corners
-then like you are wearing mittens, grab the corners of the down comforter.
-hold the duvet cover and the down comforter up so that the duvet cover falls over the down comforter and the duvet returns to right side in.
-Shake and adjust as necessary (not much needed) and button/zipper cover.
-Shake and adjust as necessary one more time to smoothe anything out and add to the bed.

Hope I explained this okay. :)

This is prolly the last thing you want to hear but...while I love my feather comforter, my duvet and comforter are constantly sliding around :(

It is indeed like a giant pillowcase. And even though all things claim to be queen size, the cover seems too big for my duvet. So it's always bunching one way or the other. Good news though is if you shake it out and find somewhere to hang it, it seems to straighten out.

Mine's dry clean only. It's velvet. Meh. And it needs it! I should do that this week.

First, the Bubbles gets in the duvet. Then shooting an arm out like a frog's tonge....

Looking back, that totally didn't make sense as written. Sorry about that. I blame work. It's really distracting.

The picture in my head was lots funnier. :)
