Apparently, the temporary cafe manager at the Barnes and Noble where [livejournal.com profile] aziraphalesshop works has a second job at a restaurant in NYC called WD-50. It's owned by a fellow named Wylie Dufresne.

Sound familiar, Top Chef fans?

He was one of the guest judges on the finale. He does that molecular gastronomy stuff that Marcel was always going on about.

Speaking of, guess who the cafe manager is good friends with?

MARCEL!

According to her, he's a really cool guy to hang out with, but she said that when he's working, the show was spot on in its portrayal of him. He is that big of a jerk.

She also got to meet Sam.

I. Am. SO JEALOUS!

You know what pissed me off, in the episode where Sam got sent home? He was criticized for "not having cooked" something, because it was only marinated. The comment was that "this is a COOKING show". Well, how is that any different than when Marcel, in the same episode, used his xanthum gum to make that pineapple thing, supposedly in order to preserve the fresh pineapple flavor? That wasn't "cooking" either, and yet he went on to the next round.

And, while I am glad Ilan won over Marcel (because Marcel was SUCH an ass), I think Sam should have won over Ilan, because Sam took more chances & his food was much more diverse than that of Ilan, who stuck to his Spanish comfort zone a lot of the time.

So there. *nods head emphatically*
