Well, part of that is true. Rich and I are thinking of taking a little trip to visit friends in CA, so I'm pricing plane tickets.

Has anyone used Pricline's Name Your Own Price thingywhatsit? They want my credit card information right off the bat, and I want to know if they suck first.

Jet Blue seems to have some pretty good prices, so we'll probably go with them, but I was wondering if the Priceline thing was actually worth it.

Anybody? Bueller? Bueller?

Uhm, I dunno anything about Priceline.
Jet Blue usually has AWESOME prices.
SouthWest and NorthWest airlines are good too.
I tend to use Orbitz, which seems pretty good.

I belive the catch with Priceline's name your price thingy is that once you name your price, if anyone can match it, reguardless of what time of day the flight takes off, or how many layovers, you are committed to buying the tix... which is why they want your card # upfront.

go with jetBlue, they're a great company, planes are cool (tv in the seatback in front of you and free) and they always have excellent prices. priceline is a crock

Yes, you're commited to buying the tickets you asked for if you can get your price. No, you can't get a refund. Yes, they will annoy you to take price breaks for signing up for serivices you don't need.

However, if I remember correctly, you set boundaries that you are willing to accept. You are more likely to get your price if you are easy about when to go. You can set layovers to "0" if you like but direct flights are always more expensive no matter who you talk to.

I had no problem with my Priceline tickets a while back, though for other trips I did find cheaper tickets elsewhere. Cheaptickets.com and Expedia, specifically. I haven't flown since Orbits came on the scene.

Shop around and try different date combinations if you can. It's usually cheaper to fly on weekdays, fr'instance.

I've been shopping a bit, and I really can't seem to find a better deal than Jet Blue. Unless, of course, we want to fly out of Philly, but that's pretty much out of the question, not to mention a dumb idea.
