Seven more shifts...

And so the countdown has begun! Many thanks to those of you who offered your congratulations. If you've been jonesin' to come visit me at work, you have until January 1st, which is my last day EVER in retail. With any luck, that is.

I gave my two weeks notice to Manager R. on Saturday. She made the pouty face at me, but she understands why I have to leave. Everyone else has been very happy for me. Assistant manager S. has not said a single word to me about it. I will laugh my ass off if she puts me on the schedule after I'm gone.

Other than that, I haven't touched a computer in...at least two days, I think. F-list skip=100, and I barely skimmed some of it. If something of the utmost importance has occurred, let me know, because I probably missed it.

Monday night, I went to see Trans Siberian Orchestra in concert. Oh. My. GOD! I've never been to a concert before. I must say, this was an EXCELLENT first concert to go to.

The music was, of course, amazing. The show was phenomenal! There were lazer lights, and snow, and a twinkle net, and lazer lights THROUGH snow, and it was just so astounding that I almost cried with joy. I dropped a hundred bucks at the souvenier stand, but it was so worth it. I bought a super cool hour glass, and a SIGNED poster (anyone know where I can get a 22x37 frame for cheap?) and a t-shirt for [livejournal.com profile] aziraphalesshop (who is still the bestest best boyfriend evar). Mommy bought me a spiffy light up guitar pin. I wanted a TSO hoodie, but they only had them for toddlers. I may be small, but I'm not THAT small.

Anyway, they played almost all of Christmas Attic, which is my favorite album of theirs, AND they played a track off of their soon to be released new album. That track happened to be "O Fortuna" from Carmina Burana. Holy. Shit. Right before they played that, the front man told everyone in the audience to take out their cell phones and wave them while they played. It was hot. I NEED that CD the instant it's available for purchase. I'll pre-order if I must.

Anyway, they said that they had a big surprise for us at the end. JOAN JETT WAS A SPECIAL GUEST STAR! She came out, and played "I love Rock & Roll" with TSO, then they did an encore of "Carol of the Bells" and the two lead guitarists came out into the audience, and got on a hydraulic lift, and went up in the air.

There were the most amazing pyrotechnics I have ever seen. Blue flames, and yellow ones, and green ones, and pure red ones, and puffs of fire that I thought were going to set the lighting rigs on fire. All you theater techies out there, ask me about the lighting rig sometime.

Wow. Just...wow. I'm totally going again next year, come hell or high water.

I probably won't be around again before the holidays, so Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukah, Happy Yule, and Have a Nice Day (for all the atheists in the audience.) Hope everyone has a safe and joyful week.

Come to think of it, has anyone gotten my holiday cards in the mail yet? My post office can be widgy sometimes, and I'd like to know if I have to go yell at someone.

In closing, I'd like to quote Animal:
"Peace on Earth, GIMME PRESENTS!"

The greatest thing happened to me today!

Today, someone actually appreciated the fact that I do my job.

This guy came in with a present he needed a gift bag for. The poor guy was totally helpless. Didn't have a clue what to do. So I helped him pick out two gift bags and complementary tissue paper. His niece was having a Sponge Bob birthday. He was all like, "Can you tell I'm single?" I rang him up for the bags and tissue, and helped him wrap everything up pretty-like. As I'm fluffing up the tissue, he asked me which Russel Stover boxed candy I would recommend. I told him the all-creams were my personal favorite. So he bought a box of them, and I finished wrapping his gifts. I asked him if he needed a bag for the chocolates, and he said "No. They're for you, because you're the best Hallmark employee I've ever met." I said thank you about ten times, and he left.

Now most of the time, even if I go out of my way to help a customer, I barely get a "Thank you," or "Have a nice day." This guy bought me chocolate, and all I did was my job.

Absolutely made my week!

Look kiddies! An update!

Wow, it's been quite some time since I last updated, hasn't it? I keep plotting out these wonderfully detailed posts in my mind, and then not having the time/attention span/energy to sit down and actually type them out.

So, let's see, what's new and exciting in the Life of Me? Faire got off to a relatively slow start this season. I didn't hit one hundred roses until the third Sunday, which also happened to coincide with everyone AND THEIR MOM showing up. [livejournal.com profile] thecoddesslives, [livejournal.com profile] defectivesoul, [livejournal.com profile] thunderemerald, and [livejournal.com profile] taidhe, just to name a few. I also thought I saw [livejournal.com profile] evilfrogurt's girlfriend, but I did not spot the Billyum. Odd, that.

Things have been going amazingly well since then. I think you guys are my good luck charm, or something. You should come more often...:) Oh! And [livejournal.com profile] euph0ra purchasing the rose business hasn't hurt one bit. The new boss is a real hard-ass, though. I don't think I can deal. :) (Those last two sentences, for those of you who do not have internet inflection interpretation software, were meant in jest. Har har har!)

We have bunches of new Fae Guild members. I don't know if any of them have LJ's, come to think of it. I should find that out. Anyway, Black Monday will be the First Annual Fae Guild Pranksgiving Day! ::trumpets:: Fun and pranks for one and all! The only rules are: no mean, malicious, or hurtful pranks. Absolutely no glitter unless you are three hundred percent sure that the person you are glittering will not mind. I'm not opening up that can of worms again...

In non-faire related news, I purchased a new bed. It's a loft, and it's significantly larger than my twin day-bed. Speaking of which, anybody need a twin day-bed? The bigger size means easier snuggling for myself and Rich, and the loft-i-ness means that my computer desk can be placed beneath the bed, thus allowing me more floor space. I love it! It is, however, ever so slightly to tall. Being a small person, I don't have a problem. It's a little tight for Rich, and none of my other family members can fit up there. I was planning on having Dad cut a few inches off the legs to make it a little easier, but I've decided to delay that project for now.

Why's that? I hear you ask. Well, Rich and I are planning on moving out of our respective parental domiciles, hopefully by the end of this year, and into a place of our own. If the ceilings in this potential residence are higher than the ceiling in my room, (which they are quite likely to be) lowering the bed would be silly. So we're holding off until we find a definite apartment.

Previously, I was unable to afford rent along with my other bills. However, I've been offered a promotion at work! ::more trumpets:: The week after faire ends, I begin training to be a Night and Weekend Supervisor! This not only means a pay raise, but also (most likely) more hours. Considering that there was a period during June when I was seriously considering leaving the store if they didn't promote me or give me considerably more hours, this is a very good thing. I like working there, and I get along well with all of my co-workers, so I didn't really want to leave. Now I don't have to!

Speaking of work, I had an interesting encounter a while back. A woman actually said to me, and this is a direct quote, "I don't want to have to pay for it, so you should give it to me for free." She was buying a gift bag, and wanted some tissue paper. She was spending less than ten dollars, and not buying anything breakable. I told her that we sell tissue paper in the gift wrap section. She said that she did not want to buy an entire package because she had some at home, but she wasn't going home before she had to wrap her gift. Now, keep in mind that this is my condensed version, and this woman was not being very, shall we say, polite. I kept trying to explain to her that since we sell it, it would be silly for me to just give some away, and she kept saying "I understand that, but..." However, obviously she didn't. I offered to let her pay fifty cents for some of our bulk tissue, which is when the above quote occurred. She then said "It's not coming out of your paycheck." I refrained from saying, "It will be if they fire me!" I finished ringing her up, and told her to have a nice day, except I meant, "Don't ever come back in here and talk to me like that again, bitch." Can you believe people?

Some of you may be wondering what happened to that acting thing I was planning on doing. You know, the thing I went to school for and all. Well, right now, I'm just enjoying not being in school. I'd like to be slightly more financially stable, i.e. have a little bit of a cushion in my savings account, before I go looking to start a career that may or may not go anywhere. I also need to look into getting my teeth fixed, because they make me look about eight years old on film. You all know that I look younger than I am in person, but it's much worse on film. I'm too tall, and... well...developed, shall we say, to play an eight year old. So, off to the dentist we go! Soon.

So that's it in a nutshell right now. I'm sure as soon as I click "post" I'll think of something else that I forgot to mention. Rich is up, so I shall now make him breakfast. TTFN!

Bomb scare!

So, I've had an intersting day.

For those of you who don't already know, I work at the Palisades Center Mall. There was (possibly more than just) a bomb scare there today.

I was working 10-4. Everything was going normally, just like any other day. Slightly after three, the loudest, clearest PA announcement I have ever heard in that mall happened:

"This is the director of security at the Palisades Center. Everyone needs to walk, don't run, to the nearest exit. I repeat, everyone needs to exit the mall immediately."

My manager ran up, we shoved customers out the door and locked the gate. One woman was wandering around completely oblivious. I don't think she spoke English.

We hauled our asses out through the back hallways, and went to the end of the parking lot and waited. It was nuts. There were people and cars everywhere, and no one knew what was going on. Sirens, cops, giant traffic jam, but surprisingly, no panicking.

Finally we found one of the guys who works next door to us and he called his buddy on security. We found out that there was a suspicous package in a bathroom that may or may not be a bomb, and the authorities were called. We spotted three helicopters. Apparently, even if it's established that the "bomb" is not actually one, they still have to search the whole mall, just in case.

At about ten till four, my boss said I could go home. One of my co-workers takes the bus, so I gave her a lift. Now I'm sitting here at Rich's. He just got a phone call from his boss. He said he thinks they found something.

Thank goodness they got everyone out...

EDIT: According to the news, they found an explosive device on the third floor next to the security office that had to be detonated by the bomb squad, something that might have been explosive on the second floor, and something that they didn't know what it was on the roof, and they were still searching.

I hope I still have a place of employment tomorrow...

EDIT II: Turns out it wasn't a bomb, but they esploded it anyway.

I can just see it now. There's gonna be a video on the black market: "Hallmark Girls Gone Wild."

This weekend was crazy fun. On Saturday I helped a friend try and find something to wear to the prom. She wanted to borrow something Renn-y, so I put her in my old Ophelia's bodice. I got her naked and tied her up, and Rich wasn't allowed to watch. :) She looked really cute, but she's taking some time to decide. I think she was expecting something a little more Hot Topic-y. Whatever.

Ye Olde Paddock Party was full of pouncity-ness! It was so great seeing everyone, and playing "Guess Who's Who Out of Garb." Now, for those of you not in attendance, I wore my black vinyl Hot Topic "bondage" pants, my extremely colorful and slightly sheer "acid trip" shirt, and my purple leather collar. Slightly different than what you'd expect from Bubbles. I got a lot of comments about my pants, and about the fact that I was speaking. "Shhh! I'm incognito!"

Little John (who's real name I've yet to learn) tried to kidnap me into fencing with...someone. At first I thought it was him, but then he said I should fence Rich, which would have been significantly easier, since Little John is, oh..., two and a half times my size. At least. Unfortunately, the rope around the fencing area was too low for him to fit under while carrying me. There went that plan...

I won one of the raffle items. :) I NEVER win raffles. It's a Lady Gaia [sp?] Puzzle Mug. It's blue with fishies on. So cute! (Question for those of you who own them: Is there some sort of recommended washing method, or just your standard soap and hot water? I'm assuming it's not dishwasher safe.)

Rich and I had to leave early due to having to work the next day and not wanting to get eaten alive by various flying people-eating insects. I'm sort of glad we did, since it started pouring shortly after eleven. (I wasn't home at the time, so Snowball went upstairs and whacked Mom with her paw until she got up and came downstairs to keep her company. Silly puppy.)

Work has been generally boring lately, except for the lady who tried to go off on me for my inablity to open the drawer and give her change for a twenty. I just walked away from her. Hey, them's the rules. I'm not going to go breaking them for a stranger, especially if that stranger isn't very nice to me to begin with.

As of Friday, I will officially be a college graduate! Woohoo! I only have a sort of vague clue as to what I'm doing after that, but I know the first couple of daysweeksmonths involve lots and LOTS of video and computer games. Yay for being able to bugger off for a bit!

Feelin' hot hot HOT!

It was eighty one degrees in my store today. Now, I like being warm, but come on!

Also, my glasses broke. I am very upset, for I do not remember where I put my old pair, so I have to wear my contacts until I go to sleep.

Buh-bye!

Remember my the assistant manager I ranted about the other day? Well, at about the time I was posting, his ass was getting fired. Saw that one coming, but didn't expect it so soon.

Anyway, he's border-line stalking his ex who works at the store. Mall security had to escort him out the other day. He keeps calling the store and hanging up, and generally making an ass of himself. Oh the drama...

The Last Straw

I've been giving my assistant manager alot of slack lately. He needs knee surgery, so he's in a ton of pain. His girlfriend, who also happens to work at my store (I could've told you that would end badly) dumped him, and he's just not getting over it. So he's been pretty damn grumpy lately, and he hasn't really been doing his job. Whatever. I'm nice, I try to give him some credit.

However, today was it. No more. He went too far this time.

He scheduled me to work 7-1 today. Normally I work 10-2 or 4, depending on whether I have class. Coming in at 7 means the mall is opening early.

I get to work, and E's there cleaning the horrible mess from the night before. I start helping her, and we start wondering when the manager is going to show up. Finally, we call her. She asks what we're doing there so early. We call mall security, and guess what? That's right, normal hours are currently in operation! So we look at the schedule. The mall hours are correct on it, but our hours are early. For the entire week. Idiot. He caught and fixed the mistake for Thursday, but not for the rest of the week.

Needless to say, I'm pissed. Who likes getting up before the sun when they don't have to?

I've done this kid so many favors over the past two months, you wouldn't believe. I felt bad for him. But this isn't his first screw up, and if I did my job the way he's doing his, I'd be long gone. Him being nasty to practically everyone for no reason isn't helping his case.

There's talk of need of a new A.M. by the end of the month.

I have the bestest best boyfriend in the world...

because he brings me roses at work. And yesterday, he gave me Paper Mario 2 as an early Chrishannayule present, AND he let me play it. Booyah! I win. :)

In unrelated news, I'm in the process of learning Voltaire's "Goodnight Demon Slayer" in American Sign Language. Not as easy as I'd thought it'd be, but fun! "Slayer" is a fun sign.

Off to bed with me, for I must away to the Hallmark of DOOM at an early hour.

I'm still alive...

barely. In the past two months, we've had five people quit at my store. That means more hours and money for me, but less life. I'm hardly ever at my house, and when I am there, I'm glued to the computer doing schoolwork. Family? Who are they?

I'm actually taking a brief break from one of the stupidest writing assignments I've ever had to do. It's for a course called "Accidental Realities: Writing Experimental Fiction." Sounds cool, no? No! It is neither accidental, nor experimental. It's all very forced and contrived, and the teacher is a pain in my ass.

Our final assignment it to write a cut-up story. We are to do this by photocopying one page from three of our favorite books, cutting the lines apart and in half, and pulling them out of a hat (or in my case, a pot) at random, and writing a story around them. It's due by the end of the week.

You may say that this is both accidental and experimental, but it isn't. We have to end up with a story that makes sense, beginning, middle and end, the whole deal, in less than a week. For me, this sort of thing would take time. I could probably do it very well had I the appropriate amount of time, but I don't, so I'm going to half ass it.

So here I sit, with a pot full of bits of paper in front of me, expecting not to do wonderfully in this course, but not to fail.

My other courses are going quite well, so I'm not going to rant about them.

I miss TV, and I love my boyfriend.

That is all.

Possible Tales from the Hallmark to come at a later date. Boy, do I have some good ones!

Presenting: TALES FROM THE HALLMARK

Yesterday at work I rang up a man with the last name (and I'm totally serious here) Bizarro. Yes, boys and girls, this man's name was Mr. Bizarro. Let me tell you, I had the damndest time keeping myself from smirking.

And now for something completely different...

I know some of you are going through unhappy times. Hang in there! If you ever need a smile, just IM me or something (Spookie14 on AIM). I'll do my very best to cheer you up, even if I have to subject you to my bad elephant jokes. :) I care about y'all!

I had to spend the day at work filling in a display. A display...of Christmas ornaments. They premiered yesterday, and some of them have almost sold out already. And I haven't even gone on vacation yet...

3 days until Disney.
26 days until Faire.
Can I maintain my sanity that long?

Just random stuff...

I found out on Thursday that my car has a theft prevention system I didn't know about. Went to go to work, and the little door remote was dead, so I used the key to open the door. Needless to say, the horn started beeping, and the car wouldn't start. Great. Called work to tell them I'd be late, called Saturn to find out what to do. The person who answered the phone had no idea what we were talking about, and told us to call back later when more people were around. So I had Dad drive me to Radio Shack to purchase a new battery. It worked, and it was all good. I'm just pissed that no one told me about this when I bought the car. Apparently there's no way to bypass it, so if my battery had died say, in Manhattan, I would've been more than screwed. Isn't that lovely?

I'm loving the new job so far. All of my co-workers are really nice, and it even turns out that I'm working with an old friend: Lauren from summer theater. She's been there for three years already, so it must be a pretty good place to work.

Saturday I was on door duty for seven hours. I don't mind that much. It's like getting paid to do nothing except say hello and goodbye. Except for the fact that they had me holding the Singing Snowmen. I had to make them sing every time someone came into the store. I started hearing them singing when they weren't playing...One of these days they're going to find me violently murdering a set of Snowmen with a sharp object, all the while singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas."

A lady came into the store looking for a Police man ornanment. We have a firefighter one, but no Police. So we started talking about how it's unfair that firefighters get all the merchandising, and cops don't. She said, "But you know who it is who throws all those cats up the trees? It's the firefighters!" It was the funniest thing I heard all weekend!

Today, I was the Queen of Hanukka card Restocking. I made that display look gooooood. Assistant Manger Chris was trying to start with me all day, saying I shouldn't have to carry heavy boxes because I was a girl. He knows I could take him, though.

I'm off to find more ways I can put off writing my paper on Hamlet. Oh the joys of procrastination!
