Actually that's acceptable if not ending in a preposition will cause confusion. The ultimate goal is to be understood.

I understand completely. I find that a lot of times, though, people aren't even aware that they are breaking a rule. It's fine to break the rule, as long as you know you're doing it and why. At least that's what I've always been told.

I didn't notice any ending prepositions. The one phrase ends in "before", but it's being used as an adverb describing when the subject ("no man") acted ("had gone").

As for your father, kick him in the shins for me. :)
