::le sigh::

A while back, I had decided that my next computer was definitely going to be a desktop. They're easier to upgrade, I don't really *need* portability, and I've had extremely good luck with my Dell desktop machine. (I had it for five years when we had a major electrical surge, which caused the motherboard to die. Currently, my hard drives are living in what used to be my brother's Dell.)

Since the final season of Fraggle Rock came out, my inner-eight-year-old is complaining that we can't watch Fraggles in the tub any more. (The same power surge that took out my compy also fried Rich's laptop, which is what I used to use to watch DVD's in the tub.)

Now I'm torn. I definitely want the best machine I can afford, since I don't want to have to buy a new computer a year or two from now. (I much prefer to upgrade the RAM, video card, sound card, etc.) As far as I know, laptops are generally more expensive. The last time I tried to upgrade one, it turned out to be way easier to just buy a whole new computer. But I can't watch DVD's in the bath with a desktop!

I also have no idea what brand I'd go with if I got a lappy.

This decision may have to be made sooner rather than later, as my computer may be well and truly borked. Trend Micro needs me to send them a dump of my system information export. This does not bode well.

my suggestion is to buy the good desktop computer, and then ask for something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-PET741B-37-Portable-Player/dp/B0027FFR90/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1257959427&sr=1-7 as a holiday gift!

heheh that was going to be my suggestion, especially since portable DVD players are vastly cheaper than Laptops---

I was going to suggest the same thing!

Get a ups. It protects against power surges
