"I am a jalapeno on a stick!"

I really need to invest in some latex gloves. (No, not for that. Get your mind out of the gutter!)

Rich and I made burritos from scratch last night. My special recipe includes a jalapeno pepper, which I cut up by hand. I've done this several times, and every time, I manage to get acidy juice where I don't want it. One time, I was merrily chopping away, and the damn pepper was so juicy that it squirted right in my eye!

Last night I was super careful. I chopped the pepper without incident, placed it in the pan, and washed my hands. I thought I was free and clear, and more importantly safe, from the evil tasty burning acid.

Hours later, after consuming delicious delicious burritos and washing up yet again, I touched my eye. It BUUUUUUUURRRRNED! I was not pleased. Why must the delicious fruit hurt me so?

So I've decided to purchase some latex gloves before the next time I need to chop a hot pepper. I can get purple ones for fourteen bucks, but I'm fairly certain I could get less-pretty ones for cheaper elsewhere. I just have to find the powder-less kind, because getting glove-powder in your food would NOT be good eats.

You an also always buy a fresh lemon when you purchase your little hot friend... once done chopping and washing, cut the lemon in half and rub your hands/fingers with the lemon, getting plenty of juice all over them, then wash again.

yeah, that wouldn't be much better.
